Our Growing Edge January 2016 Intro

Let’s go ‘random’ and share your recipe with us.

Bunny Eats Design

Hello everyone. It’s been weeks since my last blog. I’m still technically on holiday. The Koala and I got back from holiday a few days ago where we had a magic 10 days away with friends. I had grand plans of blogging and cooking up a storm over the holidays but turns out I just really needed to chill. I’m not going to apologise for my absence.

With a new year, comes a new year of Our Growing Edge. New Year resolutions, healthy eating plans, adventurous and ambitions intentions for the kitchen. I’m sure most of you have ideas you’re itching to try this month for Our Growing Edge.

I haven’t written my NY resolutions yet. I guess I’ve been pre-occupied this season, but I do hope to come up with some intentions for 2016 in the coming week. I’ve enjoyed reading your resolutions. Bucket lists and resolutions are a great way to focus…

Snapshot Stories – A young girl and her pet cats

I have always been a cat lover.

This is a photo of me holding my pet cat, Cartoon.

Sweet memories.

Is blogging a pleasure or pressure? Start the poll now !

The best way to learn what readers want is to ask.

Today’s assignment: create a poll and/or a survey to collect feedback from your readers on your site and its content.

– quote Michele W – Blogging 201, Day Twelve.

When I read this assignment, I thought to myself, do I really want to do that?

I have no intention to be an author seeking for an audience trying to sell a book hoping to make it into the bestseller list.  Just in case you do not know, I started blogging while looking for a platform to write my autobiography, something for my children and future grand and great grand children to read about their roots.  Then my blog branched out to something more interactive when I started taking part in ‘daily prompts’ and ‘weekly photo challenges’.  I also created my own ‘little girl story Must Read posts’ where I share posts of blogs I followed and liked.

Besides my life story, I write about anything and everything.  At times I may read something in the newspaper and thought that article is worth sharing and I would share and add my views to that topic.  Other times while driving or stuck in a traffic jam, some random idea may come across my mind and that would be another random post.   I blog about things I came across in my day to day life, mostly general topics, poems or photos (of my pet dog, Toby or food and all sorts).

Blogging is a hobby to me and I am never pressured on what to write or blog about.  I share and write articles I personally find interesting, inspirational and motivational and I am most happy of course when I get comments and likes and that reassured me that readers out there appreciate the topic or subject matter as much as I do.  When not socializing out, I enjoyed blogging, something I do most nights, penned down my thoughts into words that can be shared across the globe.

So well, I will give this assignment a miss.  No survey or poll required.  Easy come, easy go.  I would rather blog for pleasure than pressure.

As Michelle W. wrote in Blogging 201, Day Twelve

QUOTE

As we mentioned earlier — now may not be the right time for you to go out and begin to survey and poll your readers. There are no mandatory assignments — just ideas for how you can build your blog’s audience and solidify your brand.

Why do you blog?

Do you chose a topic based on what you believe your readers want to read or do you write anything that comes into your head?

happy 1st blogging anniversary

It has been a year of new experience and doing something meaningful at the same time making new friends from across the globe.  It all started with me looking for a platform for my autobiography and I had never ever intended to be a blogger but being on WP, obviously I cannot deny I am a blogger and had survived a whole year !

Happy 1st Blogging Anniversary to Little Borneo Girl

who blogs on https://littlegirlstory.wordpress.com

I just want to thank all readers and followers for making this adventure so gratifying.  To me, a successful blogger is both a writer and a reader.  The best thing about blogging is interaction and connections.  Thank you for your invaluable support and I greatly treasured all your comments, likes and links.

I would love to hear from you what your most gratifying experience is as a writer (blogger), follower or reader.

If you not a blogger but just a reader, I would greatly appreciate a few words from you on this special occasion.

All comments greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Happy Chinese New Year 2014 – a celebration with a difference

It’s almost midnight here in Auckland on the first day of the lunar new year.  By the time this post is published, we will be entering the second day of the year of the wooden horse.  While we see lots of posts on Christmas, there are not many (if any) that I could find on my ‘Reader’ on WordPress so I thought I will share the celebration and wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year 2014.

My children has gone to Malaysia to celebrate the Chinese New Year with their PoPo (Grandmother) and here am I all alone at home if not for my overseas guest who chose to remain here to spend the special occasion with me.

On new year’s eve we had a Korean BBQ dinner at home, just the two of us with a bottle of bubbles.  Such a huge feast, though different from a traditional chinese new year meal normally with a dozen or more dishes individually cooked, a huge effort.  We had a big feast of varieties too but preparation time was well cut down.  There was no waste of leftovers too as we only cooked what we could eat.

After dinner, we took Toby (my doggie) out for a little walk.  It was a nice summer night and didn’t get dark till 9pm at least most nights.  We spent the night in front of the TV (something I haven’t done for ages).  Since my guest arrived a month ago, I even watched the American Idols and that indeed does not sound like me but it was a way to socialize with my guest rather then spend all my time on my blog.

Today we had Thai meal for lunch at a Thai Restaurant at the marina and then came home and decided to bake and I ended up making two pizzas, a loaf of bread, a taro cake and a tapioca cake.

Taro cake can be pan fried or decorated with condiments.  I was too tired to do the condiments so we decided to freeze the taro cake and cut into smaller pieces for pan fry later.

Our dinner was the two pizzas made from scratch, from crust to fillings and to add a little ‘chinese’ to the otherwise non-chinese meal for an auspicious chinese new year day, we decided to cook a bowl of Szechuan hot and sour soup (forgotten to take a picture to show).

This was my celebration of Chinese new year with a difference.  While my family are in Malaysia visiting relatives and friends back home, here am I keeping myself super busy doing the things I enjoyed and it was even better that I had company.

Who would have thought any Chinese would bake on Chinese New Year day?  All cakes and cookies would have been made prior.  It was a random decision on our part and I guess any activity that is done in harmony is fun and that itself is a celebration.

I wonder if today (or yesterday) is an special day for you irregardless whether or not you are celebrating Chinese new year?  The Asian or Chinese population are now living in all parts of the world so I believe the Lunar New Year celebration is happening worldwide.

Daily Prompt: Blogger of Repute

Daily Prompt: Blogger of Repute.

‘You are always smiling,

You are very generous,

You are so kind’.

I often hear of those nice comments about myself,

sometimes from people I do not even know that well.

That makes me sound like a very happy jolly person.

I believe in living for today hence I do not worry much.

As the saying goes, worrying is like a rocking chair,

it gets you nowhere.

I started my blog as an autobiography to write my lifetime story.

Eventually my blog became my open diary.

I write whatever is on my mind.

Totally raw, not edited as well as it should be.

I publish whatever I wrote and did my edition online.

It is now 5am and I am still awake.

Perhaps I had a too ‘full-on’ day.

Full of activities, no time to rest my mind at all.

My thoughts are racing at 1000 miles an hour.

I guess I am very disorganized today.

That’s just me when I feel a bit confused

not knowing whether to smile or too cry.

Nothing had upset me, really.

Perhaps I had been too much in a rush trying to

do too many things in too short a time.

One obvious thing is I should be in bed and sound asleep

rather than be here on WordPress

writing a whole page of sweet nothings.

Blogger of Repute ?

A blogger is like a movie star

it is up to her readers (or fans as in movie star) to rate how good,

how bad, how boring or how captivating her stories appear.

Perhaps after this random post, you will no longer follow me.

Or would you???

Thank you for reading till the end if you are still with me.

It is now my bedtime or well past it.

Happy weekend !!!  Sending my greetings to everyone of you across the miles.

I might as well reveal it all.  Writing a whole page of sweet nothings and my photo to show !

That's the random me... live for the moment, snap my own picture in their double swan top. All for the thrill of it. Lovely top for display but definitely makes me look like the clown's assistance. And that's me, a blogger am I? Reputed for ???? ...

Bali, a real holiday destination

Image

To me, a real holiday is about relaxation, sea, sun, sand, fruit juice or ice cream on the beach or sitting on the water bench sipping a glass of smoothies.

Going for a real holiday is taking time to unwind, put your feet up, not pressured for time, wake up late, missed breakfast and start the day with brunch or lunch.  Do lots of walk, swim, enjoy the facilities of a luxurious hotel with its fine food and drinks, soak in a hot spa, pamper yourself with a massage and pedicure.

When I think about Bali, I actually mean Nusa Dua which is located 40km south of Denpasar, the provincial capital of Bali.  The international airport is about 20 to 30 minutes by car.

Nusa Dua is a host of luxury hotels, home to the most popular golf course in Bali and the main convention centre on the island.  Previous to this trip, we stayed in Westin which recently hosted the 2014 Miss World Pageant.  This time round, we stayed at the newly opened Mulia, a huge property comprising of the Resort, The Mulia and Mulia Villas.  We stayed four nights but had under-utilized the outdoor facilities of the resort.  We spent most days exploring Bali and shopping.  I am now smarter and will ensure in future, we will probably book half our time in Nusa Dua’s luxurious hotel while for a couple of nights, we could manage a 3 star instead of a 5 star so we could explore the island not thinking what a waste it is to spend close to US$500 a night (though it is not bad considering a luxury accommodation for three people) and only return to the hotel when the sun goes down.  The beaches in Nusa Dua are glorious – clean, white sand, deep, long and safe for swimming.

We had driven past the main town Kuta which came across to be chaotic, overcrowded and congested.  Kuta was originally discovered by tourists as a surfing paradise.  Today, Kuta still attracts some hardcore backpackers as well as families and tourists from all over the world, and is most notably a playground for young visitors from Australia as quoted http://wikitravel.org/en/Kuta

Here are some photos of our real holiday during our recent Bali trip.

Little Borneo Girl had been away.

The last three weeks had been a great time of family reunion and of course lots and lots of feasting.

Sharing a photo each of the places I visited from Huizhou, Guangzhou, Macau, Bali, Kuching and Singapore.  Amongst the many shots, these are significant shots of those places visited.
