January 26, 2014 – Proud to be a part of the happiest 5k on the planet

January 26, 2014 was a special day.

It was a Sunday yet I was not able to sleep in.  What a waste as I normally love to catch up on my sleep on weekends.

My daughter was visiting and registered us all for a Color Run.

What in the world is Color Run?  I was pretty much put off by the word ‘run’ as I am no runner but I went along all the same as according to my daughter, it is a time of fun and togetherness.

I did not have much enthusiasm and although given all the links to find out more about this event, I did not bother to check it out.  However, after attending the event and having completed the ‘happiest 5km on the planet’ I am all for this event and truly appreciated my daughter’s effort in bringing our little family together.  It was a great time out and doing things together as a family (something that does not happen too often).

More about Color Run – Below is an extract from http://www2.thecolorrun.com/about/

History

The Color Run was founded in January of 2012 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the “Happiest 5k on the Planet”. We are the original paint race and have created a completely new genre of running events that continues to grow exponentially.

Now the single largest event series in the United States, The Color Run has exploded since our debut event. We have more than tripled our growth, hosting more than 170 events in 30+ countries in 2013.

How the event works

Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants, or “Color Runners”, are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer.

With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:

  1. Wear white at the starting line
  2. Finish plastered in color!

The fun continues after Color Runners complete the race with an unforgettable Finish Festival. This larger than life party is equipped with music, dancing and massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5k party on the planet!
